Five Swarms, One Hive
June 1, 2020

Dear Hornet Families,

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a nice weekend and enjoyed the nice weather (while social distancing, of course).

  • Students can begin choosing their classes for the 2020-2021 school year by going the Fred Lynn Website and filling out the scheduling form under the "Our School" tab.
  • This week we will be reviewing practical percentage problems.  Specifically, we are practicing how to calculate tax, tip, and discount.  On Google Classroom, students will find a review video as well as several activities.  Today we had a great Zoom class, and students were able to preview these skills through our Gimkit game.  I also posted a practice game on Google Classroom to help students prepare for tomorrow's Gimkit.
  • If you have not already joined my Gimkit class, here is the link:  Once you join the class, you can then click on the activity link on Google Classroom to practice this week's game.
  • Be sure to check Google Classroom or your email for tomorrow's Zoom invite!

Hope to see you all tomorrow at 9 am!

Dear Hornet Families,

Good morning.  I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

We have three more weeks of online learning in Math 7.  The learning activities are designed to reinforce content we had learned before the school closure.  We have chosen content that will best prepare students for Math 8.  In addition, students have had the opportunity to improve their grade from any of the three quarters.  Here is some important information to keep in mind as we near the end of our virtual learning:

  • All activities can be found on Google Classroom.  If you have trouble logging in, please contact me.
  • Zoom Meetings are held every Monday and Tuesday at 9am.  Invitation codes can be found in emails and on Google Classroom.
  • Any student who wants to improve their quarter grades should email me ASAP.  I will only be able to make grade changes until May 28th.  After that time, the grade book will be closed and I will unable to make grade changes.
  • For grade improvement, students can contact me for make-up and/or redo assignments.  In addition, I will look at student participation and mastery based on the activities completed on Google Classroom.  The activities on Google Classroom have been based mainly on content learned in 2nd and 3rd quarters.
  • If you have any questions about grades or learning content, please email me.

As Monday is a holiday, our next Zoom meeting will be on Tuesday May 26th.  We have spent the last two weeks reviewing slope and y-intercept identification separately.  Next week, learning activities will include a combination of identifying slope and y-intercept from tables, graphs, and equations.

I miss you all very much!  I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend.   I am looking forward to seeing you at our Zoom meeting on Tuesday.  We will be reviewing and playing a Gimkit game.

Dear Hornet Families,

I am so pleased with the number of students showing up for our Zoom meetings.  It is so nice to connect with you all, and the meetings give us a great opportunity to stay in touch.  We also play Gimkit games based on the week's learning activities.  Join us every Monday and Tuesday at 9:00am.  Check your email and Google Classroom for the Zoom invites.  Please be sure you are logging in with your real name.

Last week, we reviewed finding slope.  This week, we will be exploring how to find y-intercept from a table, graph, and equation.  Activities are posted on Google Classroom.  Please be sure to contact me if you are having trouble logging in.  Click here to log into Google Classroom

I hope everyone has a great week.

Dear Hornet Families,

Please continue to check Google Classroom for learning activities.  This week we will be reviewing Two-Step Inequalities.  There is a Desmos activity, a Nearpod, and practice on Prodigy.  Let me know if you are having trouble signing in to Google Classroom by sending me an email.  Remember:  Your user name is the first six letters of your last name, first initial, middle initial 25  (Example:  Your password is your lunch number followed by flms.  (Example:  123456flms)  Some of you have had your passwords changed so let me know if you need it to be reset again.

Today we played a One-Step Inequalities Gimkit during our Zoom class.  Be sure to work on the activities before coming to our meetings so you will be prepared for our games.  We will be playing Gimkit during most of our Zoom meetings.  Tomorrow we will play a game on Two-Step Inequalities, so please work on the current activities I have posted for the week.

There is a Two-Step Inequalities Quizizz on Google Classroom for you to complete after practicing.  Consider working on the other activities before the Quizizz, as the Quizizz is how I will know how much you are understanding about inequalities.

We will be "zooming" again tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9:00am.  As a reminder, please make sure you are logging into the meeting with your name and not just the name of your device.  If I do not recognize you, you will not be admitted to the meeting.  This is so we can make sure our meeting is secure and only includes class members.

Zoom invites can be found in your PWCS  email and on Google Classroom.  Please make sure you are using the correct meeting link, and not an old one.

Take care and stay safe!  I miss you!

Dear Hornet Families,

Please continue to work on your Google Classroom assignments and attend our Zoom meetings.  I love seeing you all there.  Our meetings are a great way for us to connect and give you an opportunity to ask questions about any of the assigned work.  We also play Gimkit Live so you get a chance to show off your skills!

This week is Spirit Week at Fred Lynn.  Please participate and show your Hornet school spirit!
Spirit Week
Staff members will be at Fred Lynn on Wednesday from 11:15-12:30 to give out devices to students who need them!!!

This will be the very last day to pick up tech! Please stay in your cars, pull up to the front of the school and follow the directions given to you. Students don't have to be present. If you are walking, you must practice social distancing.

Have a great week.

Dear Hornet Families,

I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.  We had a great Zoom meeting today with many students in attendance.  I know 9:00 am is early for teenagers, so I am so happy so many of you showed up!

We will continue to have Zoom meetings every Monday and Tuesday at 9:00 am.  I will update Google Classroom at the beginning of each week.  Students can be working on the activities throughout the week and can email me at any time with questions.  I will get back to you as quickly as possible during the weekdays but will respond to weekend emails first thing Monday morning.

This week we continue to work on modeling and solving two-step equations.  This review is from Unit Three (2nd Grading Period).  I have posted the practice for the week, and will be posting a Quizizz after tomorrow's Zoom meeting.  This assessment will allow me to see what you have learned.  Next week, we move on to inequalities.

Please be sure to practice the Gimkit activity I posted on Google Classroom.  You will need to join my class first and create an account.

After you join my class, you can go to the practice link, and the activity should open up for you.

(All of these steps are also listed on your Google Classroom page.)

During our Zoom meeting tomorrow, we will have a live Gimkit game and you will compete with your classmates.  The Humans vs. Zombies version is currently available so I am looking forward to seeing who will win!

Hope everyone has a great week!  I miss you all!

Dear Hornet Students and Families,

Good afternoon, everyone.  I hope you are all doing well.  It has been a month since we have been together, and I miss you all very much!

We had a virtual teacher workday today and I wanted to provide some updates:

  • Mr. Brewer has created a teaching schedule for the entire school.  You can be working on the Google Classroom activities at any time, but the Math 7 teaching team will be available virtually from 9:00 - 9:45 on Mondays and Tuesdays.  During this time, we would like you to check in and ask any questions you may have.  The actual instruction will be on Google Classroom, to include teaching videos and activities.
  • All content will be a review of content covered prior to the closure.  We will be focusing on the units where students had the most trouble so that they will have a strong foundation for 8th grade math.
  • I will be posting new assignments each week.  There will be many options, so please do not be overwhelmed.  You can pick and choose what you would like to do.  You DO NOT have to do all of the activities.  Remember:  All assignments are OPTIONAL, but are a great way to stay on track.  My primary concern is that you are all healthy and taking care of each other.
  • You can redo any assignments from the 3rd quarter to improve your grade.  Please check your grade and let me know if you need any assignments sent to you OR I can provide you with online activities to take the place of the low grade.
  • Mr. Brewer has given us permission to modify grades for all quarters.   Please contact me if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity.   In addition, I will use the activities on Google Classroom to replace low scores on the same content from earlier this year.  For example, our first review unit will be on Equations and Inequalities.  Your performance can improve your second quarter grade if you participate and show a better understanding of the concept through the activities.
  • If you have trouble logging into Google Classroom, please let me know.

Dear Students and Parents,

Good morning.  We had a great class meeting on Zoom yesterday.  It was so nice to chat with some of you.  We will be having Zoom meetings on Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:00am (Please check emails and Google Classroom for the link and info on our meetings.)

Even though the building is closed, school has not ended.  We are continuing to learn and collaborate to improve our math skills.  There are many assignments on Google Classroom, and I will continue to post new ones each week.  These will all be review lessons that reinforce skills we already learned in class this year.  During  tomorrow's Zoom meeting I will be reviewing Quadrilaterals for everyone so that you will be able to do well on the Quadrilaterals Quizziz on Google Classroom.  If you do better on the Quizziz than your Skills Check, I will replace your score in the gradebook.  :)

Please email me if you are having trouble logging onto Google Classroom, if you have any questions, or if you just want to say "hi".  I miss all of you and hope to connect with you soon!

Dear Students and Parents,

I hope everyone is doing well during this difficult time.  Thank you to you all for your patience as we have been preparing for a situation that is new territory for us all.     Please know I am available by email during this school closure.  I will respond to all emails within 24 hours.

I am sure everyone is aware of the school closure for the remainder of the school year.  This is tough for all of us, and I want everyone to know I am here for you.  Activities will continue to be posted on Google Classroom.   Of course, these activities are strictly optional at this time.  The primary focus right now is staying healthy and meeting needs of families.

1.  Students can check on Google Classroom for class assignments.  If you have any trouble signing in, please email me at
On Google Classroom, you will find teaching videos and activities.  I will also be posting on this website.

2.  I have created accounts for Khan Academy for all of my students.  Invitations to join have been sent to all students through their Fred Lynn gmail account.  If you do not receive an email please let me know.   Students can click on the assignments through Google Classroom after logging in to Khan Academy.  Currently, I have posted assignments on translations which students were learning about before the closure.

3.  All students can continue to play Prodigy at home.  Again, if they need their log-in information please contact me.

4.  I will be posting videos for review and Quizziz activities for students on Google Classroom as well.    As of now, we have only been instructed to provide activities based on what students have already learned this year.

5.  I will be posting many helpful resources on this site.  Please be sure to check them out.

Please email me to let me know if you have any questions or just to check in.  I would love to hear from you.  My hope is that we are all able to stay connected and learning during the time we are apart.

Hope you have a wonderful day.
