This school year in pre-algebra (4th period) we will explore many mathematical concepts so that you are ready for Algebra I next year in high school. Topics include: the real number system, comparing and ordering rational numbers and simplifying expressions, equations, inequalities, practical problems, probability and statistics, Pythagorean theorem, 2-D geometry, 3-D geometry, and functions.
In the 6th period Knowing Math class, we will work on pre-algebra concepts. The purpose of this class is to give students more time to work and explore the pre-algebra concepts.
This school year in Algebra I, periods 3, 5, and 7, we will explore algebra concepts. Mastery of these concepts allows students to have a strong foundation that will then be applied in Geometry and Algebra II. Topics include expressions, equations (including literal equations), inequalities, polynomials, direct and inverse variation, functions, scatterplots and curves of best fit, quadratic equations and expressions, and statistics (to include box-and-whisker plots).
Successful completion of the Algebra I course (C or better) and passing of SOL will earn students 1 high school mathematics credit.
