World Language Specialty Program

Language and communication are at the heart of the human experience. Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) will educate students to communicate both linguistically and culturally in our own multicultural society and abroad.

  • Knowledge of more than one language and culture enables students to do the following:
  • Communicate with people of other cultures
  • Develop insight into their own language and culture
  • Expand their world view
  • Develop appreciation, sensitivity, and respect for all people
  • Access authentic sources of information directly
  • Participate more fully in the global community and marketplace.

Program Features

  • Languages offered: French and Spanish
  • This program is interest-based; no prior language experience is needed!
  • Leveled class stuctures ensure a strong base for novice language learners.
    • Level 1 of French or Spanish is divided between 6th and 7th grade
    • Level 2 is taken during 8th grade
  • Students earn two high school credits after successfully completing the program.

Who can apply?

Applications for this program are open for rising 6th grade students.

When to apply?

Specialty program applications will be accepted November 1, 2024 - February 1, 2025.
